Over fifteen-hundred buildings representing almost 269 million square feet of Michigan commercial real estate competed against each other in 2022 in this biggest loser-styled energy competition. The competitors tracked energy consumption and worked to reduce their energy in various ways; ranging from the education of building occupants to employing high efficient technology. This year we had 11 industry-specific category winners. To learn more about our winners and their individual stories and projects read their blogs on our website: https://michiganbattleofthebuildings.org/blog/

The 2022 Michigan Battle of the Building competitors saved $2.9 million in energy costs and avoided 12,050 metric tons of CO2e which is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by 14,370 acres of US forests in one year!

“Congratulations to the 2022 winners who know that addressing energy efficiency and carbon reduction is good business,” said Executive Director Cheri Holman, “since inception of the Michigan Battle of the Buildings program in 2014 our competitors have redirected $93 million of utility costs back to their bottom line and avoided 500,000 metric tons of CO2e.”

Congratulations to the 11 winners of the 2022 competition. To learn more about their accomplishments and energy reduction visit our 2023 Michigan Energy Summit page.
